One Stand-Out Hero: In Dodd We Trust (Again)

There, was that so hard? All it takes is one person willing to support the people over corporations, the rule of law (such as it is) over law breakers, and the Constitution over Constitutional abuse. Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) blocked the anti-FISA telcom immunity. At least, that is, he blocked it until 2008. Then we must put up with this whole God-forsaken corrupt Busch-co enterprise again.

Yesterday, prior to Dodd's rescue, only ten Senators opposing immunity voted no on the move to break cloture. That's right, 74 to 10, the Senate capitulated. And Dems are supposed to have ushered in a new era of responsible government? Thus, they moved the Faustian bill to a final vote. Why is this a problem?

Since two weeks after Bush took office, well before 9-11, and completely without justification, telcoms (except for Quest) set up illegal spying on any and all Americans, no warrant required. Or so they try to conn us, after the fact. Now they want to be indemnified. And worse, they expect to be given unprecedented, monopolistic power under the anticipated Kevin Martin hatchet to the FCC. Foxes and Fauxes are indeed guarding the hen house. One hero now stands alone.
