John McCain is either lying or just completely out of it. The "Sunni Awakening" happened in 2006, before the so-called "surge" occurred. So, the surge cannot cause the Awakening. BTW, the "Awakening" was another name for bribery to stand down. We paid Sunnis to stop fighting. Talk about a welfare system. John McCain, this is your brain on the "opiate" of hegemony.
